DESCRIPTION:World whisky is on the rise\, with new distilleries popping up all over\, and older\, more established world whiskies finally getting the accolades they deserve. This trend of world whisky arguably started with Japan. The Japanese have been making whisky for over a hundred years now\, and since the opening of the first distillery\, The Yamazaki\, in 1924 they have grown to become world powers in whisky. So much so that Japanese whisky is now very expensive\, rare and collectable! \nThe Japanese learned all of their techniques from Scotland\, the Father of Whisky\, and have since evolved their own style using the fundamentals of Scotch Whisky production. \nIn this tasting we will go through the whisky basics from distillation to aging\, and talk you through the history of how Scotland and Japan came to produce some of the world’s most sought after whiskies. We will taste two whiskies from Scotland and two whiskies from Japan\, discerning their flavours and differences. Ultimately you will decide which you prefer! \nThe Whiskies\n——————————————– \nGolden Horse Musashi Pure Malt Whisky (43% Vol.)-  Limited number of bottles ever released. A young but superbly delicate and crisp whisky! \nHakushu Single Malt Whisky- Distiller’s Reserve (43% Vol)- a Suntory whisky that captures the smoky characterstics of the Japanese style! \nLagavulin 16 YO (43% Vol.)- Probably the most pungent of all Islay malts\, Lagavulin is not for the faint-hearted but inspires fanatical devotion in its many followers. \nAberfeldy 12 YO (40% Vol.)- a classic introduction to a Highland single malt with clean\, fruit and honey flavours. \n\n\n\nThis event is fully hosted by our very own Malt Masters Whisky Ambassador\, who is on hand to answer any questions you may have. The Independent Bottling company- originally founded by Silvano Samaroli- was one of the first dedicated bottlers to actively promote cask strength whisky\, and is still one of the only ones to tout the beneficial effects of bottle afeing with the much-loved line on the rear labels; ‘Further matues in its bottle’. \nThroughout the 1980s\, Samaroli released dosens of bottlins which are now consiered ‘LEGENDS’ and are highly sought at auction. The artistry of the labels has also proved influentual oer the years with numerous bottlers taking inspiration from Samaroli’s artistic style. \n  \nBunnahabhain \n———————————————- \nThe Bunnahabhain Distillery was founded in 1881 near Port Askaig on Islay. This one gives us a mix of both ex-bourbon barrels and oloroso sherry butts. \nBunnahabhain 12 years old (46.3% vol)– This lightly peated Islay whisky is the most tame of the pack but still packs a flavour punch! DESCRIPTION:Swedish Whisky and Cheese \nFor August Whisky Club we are going all Scandinavian; serving up some fine Swedish Whisky from the modern Mackmyra distillery. \nNot only that\, we have teamed up with our friends at The Duch Cheese and More shop where we will be pairing the Swedish whisky with Dutch cheese and snacks! \nWhisky Club is a casual meeting of whisky lovers and drinkers and is not a formal tasting. It’s an opportunity to come and learn more about whisky and try some flavours you haven’t had before and\, of course\, make some friends. \nAs usual\, tickets are $150 on the door and you can taste as many drams as you like until the bottles go empty! \nSee you there for a few drams!

Whisky is on the increase around the world with more and more distilleries opening each year; but in order to truly understand whisky we have to go back to where it all started; Scotland. \nA back to basics tasting; our introduction to Scotch Whisky Tasting takes a look at an exciting range of Scottish whiskies which tell the story of Scotch Whisky’s colourful evolution. We will uncover Scotch Whiskies secrets growing from an illicit and often untamed spirit to the celebrated and world-renowned golden liquor we know today. \nIn this special tasting we cover all the key whisky producing regions which each\, in their own merit\, exude a wide spectrum of aromas and flavours born and shaped from the land the distilleries occupy. We will also cover the origins\, production\, and the maturation processes to gain an understanding of how the golden liquid ends up in our glasses. \nThis event is fully hosted by our very own Malt Masters Whisky Ambassador\, who is on hand to answer any questions you may have.
